INSTITUTIONAL BIOSAFETY COMMITTEE

Australia is one of the leading destinations of choice for biotech’s and pharmas to conduct their trials with novel and ground-breaking GMO therapies.

In Australia, all GMOs are regulated by the Office of the Gene Technology Regulator (OGTR). This involves identifying and managing risks posed by or as a result of gene technology.

Part of the requirements to commence GMO research is to have access to an Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC). The IBC performs a critical role in assisting organisations in gaining their accreditation to commence GMO activities. The IBC provides assessment and evaluation of products, whether there are any low or high risks associated with the GMO.
